Home-based child carer

If my child has special educational needs, does the Home-based Child Carer have relevant knowledge and skill to care for them?

Before providing services, Home-based Child Carers are required to complete 14 hours of basic training, which covers topics such as early childhood development and caregiving skills. If they are expected to care for children with special educational needs, they must undertake an additional 4-hour advanced course to understand the characteristics of these children and acquire appropriate caregiving techniques. Upon completion of the training, the social worker will assess the Home-based Child Carers’s competence to ensure suitability before matching the carers with the service.
