Getting ready for marriage

How should we split chores when living with parents after marriage?

We all have different lifestyles. It is crucial to respect each other, and maintain a harmonious family. As we want to enjoy family life, we should contribute to do the housework. For the allocation of housework, here are 4 suggestions:

1.       To actively participate

Most of us are full-time employed, and we may not able to participate in much housework. Thus, our parents will probably take up lots of housework. To show your contribution, it is suggested that you can try o participate in part of the housework, for example, cleaning the dishes after dinner and tidying up our bedroom, etc.

2.       To deal with the emotion

Negative emotions can arise when we are dealing with housework, and we may be irritated to complain or blame others. As a result, a poor atmosphere would be created in the family. It is recommended to deal with our emotions before doing housework.

3.       To recognise the housework contributors

We do not pay for the housework, however, our family members do it with love and effort. It is important to show appreciate and gratitude to the housework contributors. Taking time to express your gratitude will boost up the atmosphere on family.

4.       To adjust personal expectations

Respect different ways of doing housework, and avoid "commanding" or "demonstrating" when your family member is doing housework. Otherwise, they may become frustrated and reluctant to do housework. Therefore, you shall adjust your personal expectations in order to attain family cooperation.
